SOCAR joins Italy’s energy transformation

SOCAR joins Italy’s energy transformation
17.07.2026 12:30

Italy’s national agency for new technologies, energy and sustainable economic development, ENEA, and SOCAR-owned Italiana Petroli (IP) have signed a cooperation agreement in the field of energy innovation.

ENEA and IP will combine scientific expertise, industrial capacity and strategic vision to develop advanced energy carriers, including hydrogen, biofuels and synthetic e-fuels, and to support Italy’s decarbonisation goals.

ENEA Director General Francesca Mariotti said the partnership would make it possible to use the agency’s scientific and technological expertise to develop a fully integrated and sustainable energy system.

Italiana Petroli Chairman Levan Davitashvili said cooperation with ENEA would help the company combine scientific knowledge and industrial experience to accelerate the energy transition in the transport sector.

Italiana Petroli became part of the SOCAR group in May 2026. It is one of Italy’s largest fuel-market operators, running two refineries with a combined annual capacity of about 10 million tonnes and a network of more than 4,000 filling stations.

The company also supplies fuel to Italy’s largest airports and seaports.
