Azerbaijan approves temporary rules for railway safety zone operations

The Council of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan has approved "Temporary rules for the operation of safety zones on railways," according to Azerbaijan Railways (ADY).

The document regulates the management of safety zones under projects aimed at modernizing the Baku–Khyrdalan–Sumgayit and Baku–Pirshagi–Sumgayit lines, as well as restoring the Bakikhanov–Bina–Gala, Zabrat–Mashtaga–Baglar, Yeni Surakhani–Govsan, and Guzdek–Garadagh branch lines.

Under the rules, the safety zone covers an 11-meter wide strip of land on both sides of the railway track axis. Within this corridor, ADY will install protective fences up to 2.2 meters high, positioned 9 meters from the track axis.

Additionally, multi-level crossings or protected intersections will be built at railway and roadway junctions based on traffic intensity. The safety zone will also feature 24/7 video surveillance systems. The regulations strictly prohibit the construction or placement of any buildings and structures within the safety boundary.

ADY noted that as part of ongoing infrastructure modernization, 100,000 meters of protective fencing have already been installed along the Absheron Circular Railway and in the Kurdamir district in recent years.
