Iran doubles third-tier gasoline price to 100,000 rials per liter

The Iranian government has doubled the retail price of gasoline sold under its third-tier quota to 100,000 rials per liter, up from 50,000 rials, state broadcaster IRIB reported on September 8.

The revision applies strictly to the non-subsidized open tier, which kicks in after motorists exceed the quota allocations on their designated electronic fuel cards. Official pump prices under the primary and secondary subsidized tiers remain unchanged at 15,000 and 30,000 rials per liter, respectively.

The targeted adjustment reflects continued efforts by Iranian authorities to curb high domestic fuel consumption and manage budget outlays while avoiding alterations to baseline subsidized rations.
