Enercon explores wind turbine production in Azerbaijan
German wind turbine manufacturer Enercon is exploring the possibility of setting up wind turbine production in Azerbaijan, company representative Tayfun Bayraktar said.
“We are currently exploring investment opportunities in Azerbaijan and how we, as a wind turbine manufacturer, can become active here,” Bayraktar said on Tuesday on the sidelines of a German-Azerbaijani conference on strategic partnership and connectivity in Baku.
Enercon is considering installing wind turbines in Azerbaijan using German financing and technology, with the possibility of localising production at a later stage, he said.
If talks are successful, a wind turbine manufacturing facility could eventually be established in Azerbaijan, with the potential to export its products, Bayraktar said.
The size of any investment would depend on the scale of the project and demand. A single 7-MW wind turbine currently requires an investment of around 7-8 million euros, he said.
Enercon does not currently have direct operations in Azerbaijan and has not received a formal proposal from the Azerbaijani side. The company is exploring opportunities on its own initiative and seeking to establish contacts with government bodies, Bayraktar said.
