BP on Thursday closed down the West Azeri platform in the Caspian Sea for planned maintenance, the company’s Baku office said.

West Azeri, one of the six platforms at Azerbaijan’s largest oil deposit of Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG), will remain shut for about three weeks, according to Tamam Bayatly, a spokesman for BP Azerbaijan.

The shutdown will enable BP to carry out efficient maintenance and inspection of the platform, she said.

West Azeri produced on average 129,000 barrels of oil a day during the first three months of the year, according to a BP statement last week.

The operation of the five other platforms will not be affected during the period.

Export operations via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC), Baku-Supsa and South Caucasus pipelines will continue as normal.

BP leads the ACG project with a 35.8 percent stake. Partners include Azerbaijan’s state energy company SOCAR, Statoil, Exxon, Chevron, TPAO, Itochu and ONGC Videsh.
