22nd Caspian oil and gas exhibition opens in Baku Expo Center

The president of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Iham Aliyev, made an opening speech. Talking about the projects in the Caspian operated by BP, the President highlighted the successful partnership between BP and SOCAR over more than 20 years.

President Aliyev said that BP is Azerbaijan’s strategic partner and a major foreign investor in both the ACG and the Shah Deniz projects. He added that the partnership would last for decades to come.   

 

President Aliyev also mentioned that BP is one of the official partners of the first European Games to be held in Azerbaijan. He highlighted that BP supports national athletes and six of them are BP’s athlete ambassadors. 

After the official opening ceremony President Aliyev took a tour of the exhibition pavilion.

At the BP stand the President was welcomed by Gordon Birrell, President of BP Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. Mr. Birrell displayed a video about the Shah Deniz 2 gas project – the largest foreign direct investment made in Azerbaijan – highlighting the complexity and significance of the project, as well as the benefits it will bring to Azerbaijan and the countries along the Southern Corridor.  

  

As part of the exhibition, BP on behalf of its co-ventures in ACG, Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC), Shah Deniz (SD), and South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) hosted special an Enterprise Development Awards ceremony. Launched last year the initiative recognises the achievements of local companies that benefited from a BP-supported Enterprise Development and Training Programme. The winning companies received their awards from Gordon Birrell.  

On 3 June, as part of the 22nd Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition, Caspian Oil and Gas Conference was held at the JW Mariott Absheron Hotel. BP speakers made presentation during the conference. 

 

Caspian Oil and Gas Conference is one of the most significant international oil and gas events where the topical issues of bi-lateral and multi-lateral energy relations and global energy security are discussed. 

On the first day of the conference Gordon Birrell, BP Azerbaijan Georgia Turkey regional president, made a presentation summing up BP's and its co-venturers’ contribution to Azerbaijan within the past twenty some years.
