Hikmat Haciyev, head of the Foreign Ministry’s press service, has made the following statement on a meeting held in Yerevan between Herbert Salber, the EU’s South Caucasus representative, and Karen Mirzoyan:

"Azerbaijan had been informed of this meeting. Ethnic Armenians in Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region are citizens of Azerbaijan.

"During his visit to Azerbaijan in October 2014, the EU special representative for the South Caucasus, Herbert Salber, met members of the Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh to hear their views of the resolution of the conflict.

"Azerbaijan has repeatedly called for contacts between the Azerbaijani and Armenian communities of Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region. The EU can help promote these contacts.”
