Iran warns Saudi Arabia about civil war
06.04.2015 14:00
Enemies of the Islamic world plan to a initiate civil war in Saudi Arabia, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Iran’s deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs said, while commenting on consequences of the Saudi Arabia’s military campaign in Yemen.

"They plan to turn Saudi Arabia into second Libya by encouraging the country for intervention in Yemen,” Iranian diplomat said, adding the enemies seek to weaken Muslim countries.

Amir Abdollahian advised Saudi officials to take lesson from the US military intervention in the region and immediately halt the military strikes against Yemen, Iran’s Mehr news agency reported April 6.

An international military operation kicked off on March 26 in Yemen against Iran-backed Shiite group (Ansarullah), with involvement of the armed forces of a number of Arab states led by Saudi Arabia.

The Shiite rebels have taken control of several cities and are assaulting the port of Aden, where Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi had been based before fleeing to Riyadh.

Iran denies accusations that it gives military assistance to the Shiite group.

Amir Abdollahian believes that growth of terrorism and destruction of Muslim states’ power are consequences of the Saudi Arabia’s "strategic mistake” in Yemen.

The countries which are involved in the Saudi-led operation in Yemen also would be responsible for insecurity in the region, the Iranian diplomat said.

He further said that Iran will take active measures for halting the strikes and dispatching humanitarian aides to Yemen. The Iranian senior diplomat also expressed support for political solution for the crisis.

Earlier Amir Abdollahian said that the Islamic Republic seeks to cooperate with Saudi Arabia to put an end to ongoing civil war in Yemen. He further said that Iran has a proposal on the issue, without disclosing more details.
