IDF soldiers with surnames of immigrants from the USSR are among those killed during the battles with Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Israeli Ambassador to Russia Alexander Ben Zvi told TASS.

At the same time, he indicated that he has no information about whether there were Israelis with Azerbaijani citizenship among the dead fighters:

"We have no idea who has citizenship of the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, the United States, or France. I can only say that if you look at the names of the dead, there are names that clearly have roots in the countries of the Soviet Union."

He drew attention to the fact that Israelis are being drafted into the army if it is time for them to do military service at the age of 18, regardless of whether they have another citizenship.
