More than 1 million civilians have been able to evacuate since the start of the ground operation from the northern Gaza Strip, Peter Lerner, an official representative of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), said at a briefing, reported from TASS.

"I can say that over different periods of time we have had quite great success with several hundred thousand, and according to some estimates, more than 1 million people evacuating from the northern regions and heading south,” he noted.

He added that during a ground operation this gives "room for maneuver in identifying places where the enemy is hiding.”

"Certainly, as any modern military force can understand, there is a significant problem in distinguishing between civilians and terrorists,” he said.

Earlier, the IDF said that in the last three days alone, almost 200,000 people left Gaza City.
