Jet-powered VW Beetle that goes like a rocket - PHOTO

Car enthusiast Ron Patrick, 47, created the jet-powered bug by fitting a 1500hp engine to its back of his blue BeetleIt can now reach speeds of at least 140mph and leaves a 50ft trail of flames in its wake.In fact, Mr Patrick is yet to find out exactly how fast the car can go as the speedometer only reaches 140mph.Constructed in his garage at home, Mr Patrick, from California, spent six years and £125,000 ($200,000) on his pride and joy.It is road legal, but Mr Patrick prefers to grease the wheels at special shows and exhibitions.Mr Patrick said: "It isn't as difficult as you would think to fit a jet engine to a car."I'm a mechanical engineer by profession and I have studied quite a few books."I spent around £15,000 ($25,000) on the car and £15,000 ($25,000) on the engine but then another £94,000 ($150,000) in parts."The car has a universal appeal to everyone, it's a little bit of hell wrapped up in metal."It is road legal since the only pertinent law has to do with how much things can stick out the back of the car, in California, the law says 14in and my VW Beetle is 13in."It isn't any more or less difficult driving with a jet engine in place, I'd say you just have to be careful when backing up."People love the car because I think it appeals to people's imagination, even the birds refuse to poop on it."(telegraph.co.uk)Bakudaily.Az
