Here's one little bird with a very big appetite.

The Belted Kingfisher hit the jackpot when he landed a whopper of a goldfish and as if to prove it hadn't bitten off more than it could chew, it wolfed it down in a single gulp.Photographer Christopher Schlaf couldn't help but laugh as he watched the hungry bird dive into the water and emerge with its impressive haul.Mr Schlaf, 50, said: 'I spotted the little fellow dive into the water and then land on this branch with his catch. The size comparison made me laugh but he showed no signs of struggling as he flew up to his perch. It took a few attempts for him to swallow the fish but he did it and consumed the whole thing. After polishing it off he sat there for a while to have a rest, then flew away. I expect he wanted to work off his large lunch.'Mr Schlaf, a father-of-two, took the shots at a small lake near his home in Romeo, Michigan, US.Belted kingfishers live on a diet including sticklebacks, trout, crayfish and insects. They perch along streams, lakes, and estuaries searching for prey and fly quickly up and down rivers and shorelines giving loud rattling calls. They hunt either by plunging directly from a perch, or by hovering over the water, bill downward, before diving after a fish they have spotted.(dailymail.co.uk)ANN.Az
