British Council Azerbaijan announces Shakespeare Carpet Competition

British Council Azerbaijan in partnership with the Academy of Fine Arts and Azerbaijan Carpet Museum announced the Azerbaijan Shakespeare Carpet competition for the best carpet design in honor of William Shakespeare’s 452th birthday.


"This year whole world celebrates the anniversary of Shakespeare. The anniversary is marked with conferences, meeting, spectacles and other events around the world. Only in Azerbaijan we decided to organize an interesting competition. We expect to unite Azerbaijani creativity and Shakespeare and Britain's literature.” said  Elizabeth White, the director of British Council Azerbaijan.


The competition is offered in three categories:


1) For professional carpet designers and students studying carpet weaving 2) Children under the age of sixteen as of 1st September 2016 3) For all other categories.

 

The best design will be determined by the experts from State Academy of Fine Arts and Azerbaijani Carpet Museum.

The winner will get a free trip to London and entrance tickets to Victoria and Albert museum and Shakespeare Globe Theatre

The deadline for submitting the designs is 31 July 2016.
