An exhibition of traditional textile and clothing of the peoples of the Caucasus and Central Asia - those living along the ancient Silk Road - has opened at the Museum Center in Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku.

Examples of textile and clothing collected by the Russian Ethnographic Museum in St Petersburg have been put on display. Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism is the organizer of the exhibition.

The minister of culture and tourism, Abulfaz Qarayev, attended the opening of the exhibition, saying that the examples of textile and clothing will be of great interest to visitors.

Yelena Gerasimenko, deputy director of the Russian Ethnographic Museum, spoke about the history of the museum and the items put on display at the Baku exhibition.

The items also include tools and machines, costumes, interior items, samples of fabrics, carpets and embroidery, attributes of wedding ritual, among others.
