Azerbaijani scientists and public representatives have appealed to UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay regarding the cultural genocide against the heritage of the Azerbaijani people in the Tepebashi neighborhood of the Armenian capital Yerevan.

The appeal, signed by 102 well-known scientists and public figures, notes that UNESCO missions to Armenia and Azerbaijan were planned following the meeting of the leaders of Azerbaijan, France, Armenia and the head of the Council of the European Union on February 4, 2022.

"Turning to UNESCO, we ask that the historical quarter of Tepebashi, located in the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, also become one of the visiting places for the mission. We hope there won’t be obstacles to the activities of the UNESCO mission in Armenia.

We believe that with your authority and efforts, under the principles established by international conventions, you will ensure the security, restoration and conservation of Azerbaijani monuments in Yerevan and make Armenia take on this responsibility. In this case, the historical quarter of Tepebashi, which is an integral part of the material and cultural heritage of humankind, will be saved from another vandalism,” reads the appeal.
