Baku announces results of 7th International Architecture Competition

The closing ceremony of the 7th Baku International Architecture Competition was held on October 2. The event was attended by Arzu Aliyeva, head of the Baku Media Center.
Elbay Gasimzade, chairman of the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan, recalled that the competition has been organized since 2013. The first edition received over 100 projects from 20 countries, while this year nearly 270 projects from around 40 countries were submitted. He said the contest is among the five most prestigious competitions of the International Union of Architects and is held in seven categories.
Culture Minister Adil Karimli said the biennial event brings prominent architects from around the world to Baku to discuss key issues and contribute to the field’s development. He stressed the role of President Ilham Aliyev, First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, and Arzu Aliyeva in supporting culture and architecture in Azerbaijan.
Members of the jury were awarded the Union of Architects’ top honor, the Mikayil Huseynov Memorial Medal. Winners in each of the seven categories were also recognized. The ceremony concluded with a cultural program.
