Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has called for an end to the bloodshed between Israel and Palestine.

Lavrov was speaking at negotiations with Secretary General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Aboul Gheit in Moscow.

"It is necessary not only to urgently stop the bloodshed, but also to begin the search for a peaceful solution,” Lavrov said.

Lavrov added that the escalation of the conflict between Palestine and Israel confirms that the current status quo in the region is ineffective.
