Lavrov: Russia, Türkiye, Iran offered Baku, Yerevan to use 3+3 platform to complete work on peace treaty

Russia, Türkiye, and Iran have proposed that Azerbaijan and Armenia use the 3+3 platform to complete work on a peace treaty, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference in Istanbul following the meeting of foreign ministers of the countries participating in this regional platform.

"There remain problems in the relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. We talked a lot about this today as well. We, along with the Turks and Iranians, have proposed to our colleagues in Yerevan and Baku to use the 3+3 platform to complete work on a peace treaty," Lavrov said.

The Russian Foreign Minister reminded about "the groundwork and foundations" that were prepared by the parties with Russia's mediation.

Responding to a question about which platform is best suited for completing peace negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the minister stated: "The one where an agreement can be reached. If they can agree directly, we will only be glad. As I have already said, today we offered, if they are ready for it, to use the 3+3 platform, which would be natural, given that it is in this format that neighbors, Armenia and Azerbaijan, meet. But, I repeat, it's up to Baku and Yerevan to decide," he said.
