Two Armenian soldiers were killed in fighting with Azerbaijani troops in the separatist region of Nagorno-Karabakh, the Defense Ministry in Baku said.

Many more Armenians were injured while trying to attack Azerbaijani army positions in late hours of Thursday, the ministry said.

The Azerbaijani side sustained no casualties.

The Armenian Defense Ministry confirmed the report. It identified the dead as Vahe Vanoyan, 20, and Mikael Torosyan, 19.

Armenia captured nearly one-fifth of Azerbaijan’s internationally-recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent districts, in a war in the early 1990s.

While large-scale hostilities ended with a ceasefire in 1994, no peace agreement has been signed.

Armenia has yet to comply with four UN Security Council resolutions demanding immediate and unconditional withdrawal from the Azerbaijani territory.
