OIC foreign ministerial council says Khojaly massacre was genocide

Guinea's capital Conakry hosted the 40thsession of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Organization ofIslamic Cooperation (OIC) on Dec. 9-11.

 

According to the Istanbul office of the YouthForum of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation for Dialogue and Cooperation(OIC YF), the meeting adopted a resolution presented by the forum, reflectingits activities.

 

OIC Foreign Ministers Council once againconfirmed its position that the massacre of Azeri civilians in the town of Khojalyamounted to genocide.

 

Head of the delegation of the OIC Youth ForumElmaddin Mehdiyev told the session that the proposed resolution provides aspecial item on the "Justice for Khojaly" campaign, which is beingundertaken by the Forum and was initiated by Chief Coordinator of the OIC YouthForum Leyla Aliyeva.

 

According to this paragraph, the OIC ForeignMinisters Council "welcomes the activities of the campaign and urgesmember states to take an active part in the campaign at the national andinternational levels in order to recognize the Khojaly genocide as an act ofcrime against humanity".

 

Mehdiyev added that as a result of thecampaign organizers' activities, the Khojaly tragedy last year was firstrecognized by the OIC Parliamentary Union as a crime against humanity and anact of genocide.

 

OIC Ministerial Council first recognized theKhojaly tragedy as genocide during its session held in November 2012 inDjibouti. In February of this year at the summit of the OIC, the Khojalytragedy was once again recognized as a crime against humanity and an act ofgenocide.
