Olympic medals arrive in Sochi

After the first wave of athletes arrived in Sochi ahead of the start of the Winter Olympics on Friday – it was the turn of the Olympic treasure chest carrying all the highly sought after medals.The gold, silver and bronze collection was presented by Andrei Sidorenko, the CEO of the medal makers, Olympic speed skating gold medalist Svetlana Zurova and figure skating champion Alexei Yagudin.Yagudin said: “Their design is really very Russian. It includes 28 traditions handcrafts such as Gzel, Uftug paintings, Vologda lace and Ivanov prints amongst others. So the medals reflect all the variations of the nature and the breadth of the Russian soul.”Each medal took up to 18 hours to create and, because of the record number of sporting events this year over 1,300 medals were made.(euronews.com)ANN.Az
