Trump administration proposed the Zangezur Corridor plan to Baku and Yerevan

The administration of former U.S. President Donald Trump has put forward a new proposal to Azerbaijan and Armenia aimed at resolving the long-standing dispute over the Zangezur transport corridor, according to Carnegie Foundation analyst Olesya Vartanyan, citing diplomatic sources.
The plan, she said, mirrors a previous EU proposal but is rooted in U.S. strategic logic, involving direct participation of American businesses to ensure the stability and operation of the corridor linking mainland Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan through Armenia.
While the Armenian government is wary of ceding full control over the route, Baku insists on international guarantees to prevent political disruptions in the future.
Vartanyan emphasized that Turkey remains the only regional power capable of influencing Baku’s decision-making, while Russia is bogged down in Ukraine and Iran is focused on its military recovery following regional tensions.
The American initiative, still in its early stages, may shift the dynamic of the South Caucasus conflict resolution. “One U.S. official even hinted that Trump might receive a Nobel Prize for this if successful,” Vartanyan noted.
