Aliyev meets Trump in Davos, joins Peace Council initiative
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev held talks with U.S. President Donald Trump in Davos on Wednesday, after signing a document making Azerbaijan a founding member of a newly created Peace Council initiative.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum, where Trump earlier presided over a signing ceremony for the Peace Council charter.
Trump said the Peace Council would aim to promote global peace and cooperate with other international organisations, including the United Nations.
Leaders from several countries, including Armenia, Pakistan, Qatar, Indonesia, Argentina and Hungary, also took part in the signing ceremony.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the Peace Council had formally acquired the status of an international organisation.
Details of the Aliyev–Trump talks were not immediately disclosed.
