President Aliyev meets Iranian defense minister, discusses bilateral ties and regional peace
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received Iranian Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Support Aziz Nasirzadeh and his delegation on February 6.
During the meeting, Aliyev referenced a recent phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, noting that high-level contacts provide a platform for discussing bilateral issues. He highlighted Pezeshkian’s official visit to Azerbaijan last year as successful and beneficial for strengthening relations.
The President emphasized that peace in the South Caucasus, achieved through Azerbaijan’s initiative, holds strategic importance for both Azerbaijan and neighboring Iran. He also reaffirmed his country’s readiness to support efforts to reduce regional tensions and maintain stability.
Nasirzadeh conveyed greetings from President Pezeshkian and recalled Iran’s visits to Azerbaijan, including to Khankendi, with satisfaction.
The leaders discussed further development of bilateral relations based on friendship, brotherhood, and good-neighborly principles, as well as prospects for cooperation in the defense sector.
