Azerbaijan National Academyı to review case of Ramiz Mehdiyev

The Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) will review the case of Ramiz Mehdiyev on February 25.

According to information obtained by Report, a meeting of the ANAS Presidium will be held tomorrow. One of the two items on the agenda is the possible expulsion of Mehdiyev from full membership of the Academy.

The second issue to be discussed at the meeting is the presentation of ANAS’s annual report.

It should be noted that in connection with a criminal case launched by the State Security Service (DTX), Mehdiyev has been charged under Articles 278.1 (actions aimed at the violent seizure of power or forcible change of the constitutional order), 274 (high treason), and 193-1.3.2 (legalization of property obtained by criminal means) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

A preventive measure in the form of house arrest has been imposed on him.
