Parliament condemns European Parliament resolution
The Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan has condemned the European Parliament's October 8 resolution on domestic human rights as deeply biased, warning that the move undermines ongoing peace negotiations between Baku and Yerevan. In an official rejoinder, the Azerbaijani legislature rejected the allegations as groundless political pressure, expressing alarm that specific European lawmakers are attempting to reignite regional tensions.
The parliament stressed that adopting contentious texts while peace efforts are advancing damages mutual trust and obstructs the normalization process. Calling on European lawmakers to abandon confrontational rhetoric and cease meddling in domestic affairs, the Milli Majlis highlighted apparent double standards and cited high-profile corruption probes within European institutions that undermine their institutional credibility.
The European Parliament had passed the resolution with 445 votes in favor, 37 against, and 97 abstentions, demanding the immediate release of Ali Karimli, Anar Mammadli, and others, while urging EU member states to consider targeted measures.
