Azerbaijan backs U.N. resolution on Georgia again
The U.N. General Assembly, during its 80th session, adopted a resolution on the status of refugees and internally displaced persons from Georgia’s Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia, co-sponsored by Georgia and 67 other countries.
The resolution reaffirms the right of all refugees and internally displaced persons to return to Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia.
A record 107 countries voted in favor of the resolution, while eight voted against and 55 abstained.
Azerbaijan was among the countries that supported the document.
Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili thanked the countries that backed the resolution in a post on X.
The U.N. General Assembly has adopted a similar resolution annually since 2008, with Azerbaijan consistently voting in support of the document.
