President Ilham Aliyev accepts credentials of incoming Austrian Ambassador
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Austria, Etienne Berchtold, on October 5.
Presenting his credentials, Ambassador Berchtold addressed the head of state in Azerbaijani, expressing his commitment to advancing his language skills throughout his diplomatic tenure in Baku. President Aliyev commended the ambassador's gesture and wished him success in his diplomatic mission.
The Azerbaijani leader highlighted the enduring bilateral partnership rooted in mutual respect, underscoring prospects for expanded political dialogue, reciprocal investments, and a wider footprint of Austrian companies active across Azerbaijan. The sides reviewed interparliamentary ties, multilateral engagement within international organizations, and Azerbaijan’s key role in safeguarding European energy security, particularly noting the commencement of direct Azerbaijani natural gas exports to Austria in January of the current year.
