Uzbekistan proposes Asian initiative on responsible use of AI
Uzbekistan proposed launching an Asian initiative on technological trust and the responsible use of artificial intelligence, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev told a summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Baku.
“We should do everything possible to ensure that digital progress benefits all countries and that gaps in technological development narrow,” Mirziyoyev said.
He proposed establishing an expert platform within CICA where specialists from member states could develop recommendations and coordinate practical measures.
Mirziyoyev said artificial intelligence offered vast opportunities but also posed significant risks. He did not specify a timetable or implementation arrangements for the initiative.
He also proposed developing a framework for building an infrastructure of trust in Asia, with measures to strengthen connectivity and cooperation between states and help prevent conflicts.
“When dialogue weakens, the risk of wrong decisions increases. We must therefore do everything possible to prevent political differences from escalating into armed confrontation,” he said.
Uzbekistan also proposed a climate resilience partnership to promote water-saving technologies, green energy and environmental monitoring.
Mirziyoyev said Uzbekistan was ready to host a human capital development forum next year and proposed drafting a two-year CICA action programme in that field.
He also backed Azerbaijan’s nominee for CICA secretary-general and welcomed Baku’s intention to continue chairing the forum until 2028.
