An Azerbaijani army serviceman was killed by Armenian fire today, the Defense Ministry said on its website.

Karam Sahin oglu Nohbaliyev was decorated posthumously for his exemplary service, the ministry said, without giving detail on the location of the incident.

It was the first death after Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to respect the ceasefire during the Sochi Olympics at the request of mediators from Russia, the USA and France.

Five troops – three Azeris and two Armenians – had been killed in clashes since January.

Armenians captured nearly 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s internationally-recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent districts, in a war after the Soviet Union’s breakup in 1991.

Major hostilities ended with a ceasefire in 1994 but the sides have yet to sign a peace agreement.
