Radamel Falcao waves goodbye to Manchester United fans

Radamel Falcao waved goodbye to Manchester United fans after being substituted during their draw with Arsenal on Sunday, a sign that the Colombian forward will not be staying at Old Trafford beyond his current loan agreement.

It's been a tough season in Manchester for Falcao after his loan switch from Monaco last summer and it looks like his Old Trafford stay will be coming to an end.

The 29-year-old was replaced by Robin van Persie on the hour mark during the 1-1 draw with Arsenal, and when leaving the pitch he waved to all corners of Old Trafford as if to say farewell.

It was a moment that felt a bit like 2009 when Carlos Tevez knew he would be leaving Old Trafford that summer and he waved goodbye to the Manchester United fans.

United will have to pay Monaco £46million to make Falcao's loan switch permanent, but the 29-year-old has scored just four goals all season.

The Colombian forged a reputation as one of the most deadly strikers in the world during his rise with Atletico Madrid, but an anterior cruciate ligament injury during his season at Monaco scuppered his chances of playing in the 2014 World Cup.

During his year at Old Trafford, Falcao has looked like a fish out of water and played second fiddle to Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.

Goalkeeper David de Gea was also substituted on Sunday as he picked up an injury and was replaced by fellow Spaniard Victor Valdes for the final 15 minutes.

It was an unsatisfactory end to a stunning season for the Manchester United goalkeeper, a season so good that Real Madrid are lurking to draw him back to Spain.

Manchester United supporters sang De Gea's name as he walked down the touchline back to the dressing rooms and the 24-year-old applauded back.

Was it a farewell gesture? Only events in the summer will determine that, but if De Gea was saying goodbye then it was a lot less clear than Falcao's farewell gesture.
