1. Qantas First Class, Sydney

The top airport lounges were ranked by San Francisco based travel company, Hipmunk based on data they collected from travellers.

Qantas First Class lounge famed for its complimentary Aurora spa treatments, 8400 plants and 48-seat open kitchen menu designed by acclaimed chef Neil Perry, was crowned top in the ratings.

Stylishly designed and offering an oasis of privacy, the newer Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Business Class lounge in Doha also made the list.

Four separate lounges at London Heathrow were honoured ensuring the hubs status as a haven of calm for passengers in transit.

The lounges chosen at the UK airport were Malaysia Airlines Business Class, Qatar Airways Premium, Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse and British Airways First Class Concorde Room.

The team at Hipmunk also collated data to rank the airlines with the best airport lounges overall. The top airline was Qatar Airways, followed by Turkish Airlines and Qantas Airways.

Cathay Pacific Airways came in fourth, Asiana Airlines fifth, Japan Airlines sixth followed by Emirates, Sas Scandinavian Airlines, Iberia and lastly Etihad.
