President Aliyev fires his communications minister

President Ilham Aliyev decreed on Thursday to dismiss his longtime minister of communications and high technologies, Ali Abbasov. 

No reason was given for the dismissal.

Abbasov is a second Azerbaijani minister that has lost his job in less than a month. President Aliyev on Oct. 17 sacked the minster of national security, Eldar Mahmudov.

Nearly 20 senior security officers have since been arrested for interference in private businesses and extortion.
