Oqtay Asadov re-elected speaker of Azerbaijan’s parliament

The Milli Maclis, which is Azerbaijan’s parliament, held its first meeting on Tuesday after the Nov. 1 parliamentary elections.
Oqtay Asadov was re-elected speaker of parliament. He has held the post since 2005.
The first deputy speaker, Ziyafat Asgarov, and deputy speaker Bahar Muradova were also re-elected.
President Ilham Aliyev attended the meeting.
The ruling New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) retained its majority in parliament in the elections, winning 70 of 125 seats.
