Outrage as bored politician 'stops football match and orders penalty shootout'

The president of Mauritania is believed to have called the match to a halt, leaving the rest of the crowd infuriated.

The referee then signalled for a shootout in the game between FC Tevragh-Zeina and ACS Ksar.

But the Mauritanian federation's president, Ahmed Ould Abderrahmane, denied the top official oordered the abrupt ending.

He said: "I deny in the strongest terms the intervention of the President of the Republic.

"The decision was made due ​​to organisational issues in accordance with the presidents and the coaches of the two teams."
