Azerbaijan to pay 15K manat to families of dead oil workers

Azerbaijan to pay 15K manat to families of dead oil workers
11.12.2015 12:00
Prime Minister Artur Rasizada has signed a decree to pay the families of oil workers killed and missing in last week’s rig fire in the Caspian Sea 15,000 manat ($14,337) in compensation each.

The one-off payment will be allocated from the reserve fund of this year’s state budget.

An oil worker was killed and 29 others were missing after an oil rig at SOCAR’s Guneshli deposit caught fire on Dec. 4. The bodies of only six of the missing have been recovered so far.

Efforts to extinguish the fire have also failed.

It was the deadliest accident in the history of Azerbaijan’s oil industry.
