Azerbaijan journalist’s murder trial to start next month

Six people suspected in the beating death of journalist Rasim Aliyev will stand trial at Baku’s Serious Crimes Court on Jan. 5.

Aliyev, 31, a correspondent with Azerbaijan News Network (ANN), was severely beaten by a group of men in Baku on Aug. 8. He died of the injuries the next day.

The journalist was attacked for a Facebook post criticizing footballer Cavid Huseynov, then the captain of Qabala FK.

Huseynov was arrested along with five people on charges of involvement in the murder.
