Distance learning rolled out in over 100 small schools in Azerbaijan

Distance education is being gradually introduced in more than 100 schools with low student numbers across Azerbaijan, State Agency for Preschool and General Education Deputy Director Vafa Yagublu said.

Speaking on Sabaha saxlamayaq on ITV, Yagublu said a pilot project had been tested in several schools in the Lankaran–Astara region, producing satisfactory results.

She said that in upper grades, subjects facing teacher shortages — including biology, chemistry and history — are taught remotely by teachers from central schools in the region, with several students from each village attending the classes.

Yagublu added that the number of low-enrolment schools varies depending on internal migration trends.

According to the agency, student numbers in secondary schools declined in some regions in 2025 due to demographic changes and migration, making the introduction of distance learning increasingly relevant.
