Azerbaijan police detain 3 people for illegal currency trade

Police in Azerbaijan detained three people for illegal trade in foreign currencies.

Sadiq Gozalov, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, said the fight against the illegal trade in currencies will be continued.

A 50 devaluation of manat this year caused frenzy in Azerbaijan with many banks suspending the sale of dollars, which currently is traded at $/1.57 manat.

The shortage of the US currency gave rise to the development of a black market, where 1 USD is reportedly offered for two manats.
