iPhone 7: Why Apple ditching the headphone port could be the best decision ever

iPhone 7: Why Apple ditching the headphone port could be the best decision ever

With over 200,000 petitions demanding Apple don't do away with the headphone port, this has to be one of the most unpopular iPhone rumours ever.

However, the end of plugging your standard cans into the iPhone might not be such a bad thing.

There’s plenty of reasons why Apple could be considering the removal of this traditional port and it’s not just about making the device thinner.

Ditching this 3.5mm socket could also mean Apple is finally able to increase the screen size, with some reports even suggesting the display could be expanded right to the base of the phone.

If you hold the headphone jack against your iPhone you'll see how much space it takes up once pushed inside the device.

Then there’s the improvements in sound.

Noise cancelling headphones have become hugely popular over the past year but they need power to make them work.

This energy is currently supplied by a highly irritating power pack, which usually sits at the bottom of the headphone cord.

Rumours are suggesting that users will plug their new iPhone headphones into Apple's lightning port at the base of the phone, which would automatically allow power to be supplied to your sound blocking earbuds.

Of course, only Apple knows what's coming in 2016 but the iPhone 7 could see some radical changes.

Alongside the headphone rumour there's also talk the next iPhone could be waterproof, have a much-improved screen and be charged wirelessly.

If previous years are anything to go by we're expecting all to be revealed in September.

If you can't wait that long for your next Apple fix don't panic too much.

The US tech giant might be planning to launch a new smartphone in March, which could be called the iPhone 5e.

Rumours suggest this new device will feature a 4-inch display, 8-megapixel camera and Apple Pay support.
