Why is Scunthorpe facing a ban from Facebook?
07.04.2016 18:01
Facebook's ban on explicit posts is leaving residents of Scunthorpe facing a puzzling ban from the social network.

The reason? It's all down to Facebook seeing a very naughty word hidden inside the town's name.

The social site appears to think the 'c' word is being used when businesses and services are posting content.

Visitors have also struggled to promote the fact that they've taken a trip to the northern town.

The Facebook ban was first noticed by band October Drift when they tried to promote an upcoming gig on their social media page.

Speaking to the Independent, Dan Young from October Drift said: "As a band we like to promote our shows via Facebook,

"But Facebook has none of it when trying to boost the posts."

Not everyone is experiencing the ban and the town's name can be written in standard posts.

It seems the problem only occurs when users attempt to pay to promote the post in news feeds.

Facebook has faced further controversy this week after its VR headset features some scary terms and conditions.

According to the small print the Oculus Rift can collect information on the people wearing it and send everything back to other company.

Effectively when the headset’s software is installed on a computer, it adds a process that allows the PC to watch what the headset is doing and send that back to Oculus.
