Leicester fans flog seats for £3,000: Foxes rush to cash in on title race

Seats in the King Power stadium are now being offered for anything between £268 and nearly £3,000.

Loyal fans are hanging on to their tickets in the hope they will get to watch the 5,000/1 outsiders being crowned Premier League champions.

But others are flogging them online for a vast profit through ticketbis.net – and prices are rising daily as the season draws to a close.

Anyone who wants to see Claudio Ranieri’s side entertain West Ham next Sunday will have to pay £632 for a seat with a face value of around £35.

The following Sunday, when the Foxes are at home to Swansea, a number of Leicester fans have offered their seats for prices ranging from £268 to a whopping £1,232.

The most expensive ticket has a face value of just £48. But the real money is being made at Leicester’s last home match of the season.

Many pundits believe May 7, when the Foxes take on Everton, will be the day they are crowned the most unlikely champions in English football history.

The cheapest single seat in a Leicester section of the 32,000 capacity stadium is up for sale at £1,854. But one fan is offering two seats together for anyone prepared to pay a mind-boggling £5,823.

Cliff Ginetta, chairman of Leicester City Supporters’ Club, described the fans’ actions as "disappointing”.He added: "I would have thought fans would have wanted to go to these games, to see City make history, not make a fast buck from their tickets.”

Former player Alan Birchenall, who played 183 games for the club between 1971 and 1977, and is now an ambassador and match day announcer, described the prices as "crazy”.

He added: "I remember when we were at Filbert Street and we were playing in front of 9,000 fans.

"Things are different now, the club has gone off the Richter scale – the interest is unbelievable.

"I reckon you could easily add 20,000 seats to the King Power stadium at the minute and we would still fill it every week.”
