Turkish, Azeri flags burnt in Armenia at event to mark mass killings by Ottomans

Turkish and Azerbaijani flags have been burnt in Armenian capital Yerevan at a ceremony to commemorate the 101st anniversary of the 1915 mass killings of Armenians by Ottoman Turks, which Armenians describe as "genocide".


A clip posted on the website of Iran's English language Press TV on 24 April showed a large crowd outside Yerevan Opera House and several people setting Turkish and Azerbaijani flags on fire. "On Saturday [23 April], demonstrators began a torchlight march to a hilltop memorial complex dedicated to millions of Armenians massacred a century ago by Ottoman Turks," Press TV said.


Turkey rejects the term "genocide" and says 300,000 to 500,000 Armenians, and at least as many Turks were killed between 1915 and 1917, what the Turkish government sees as the "casualties" of World War I, Press TV said.
