Azerbaijan's contribution to NATO mission in Afghanistan to continue - president

Azerbaijan will continue to contribute to the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan, President Ilkham Aliyev said on Saturday at the meeting on Afghanistan held within the framework of the NATO summit in the Polish capital.


"Azerbaijan is a reliable partner of NATO and a friend of Afghanistan and it will continue to make a considerable contribution to the Resolute Support Mission with its soldiers and various kinds of transit transportation," Aliyev said, noting that his country had made vast donations to the foundation supporting the Afghan army.


"We will continue our financial support to that foundation," he said, underscoring that Baku "being loyal to a many-year-long political partnership and practical cooperation with Afghanistan" was set to continue its contributions after the end of the Resolute Support operation.


Azerbaijan provides practical assistance to Afghanistan in military training, education and other sectors, the president said.
