State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) will continue to implement projects in Turkey despite the deterioration of the political situation in this country, SOCAR head Rovnag Abdullayev said in an interview with the Turkish news agency Anadolu.

"The implementation of projects with a total cost of more than $18 billion, which were aimed at meeting the energy needs of Europe, will continue at full strength and decisiveness. In Turkey 40,000 SOCAR employees are working directly or indirectly," the company head said.

He said that in the near future, with the cooperation of SOCAR, the largest container port of the Aegean Sea will be opened, and in 2018 the Star oil refinery will be commissioned.

"Our activity at Petkim is a symbol of the confidence of Turkey and the Turkish economy. Turkey is our home. We will continue to invest in this country, as was the case earlier," he said.
