US President Donald Trump told the New York Post that he believes Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mujtaba Khamenei is alive but seriously injured.

“We don’t know. We think he is probably alive, but in very bad shape,” Trump said.

Earlier, on March 12, The Sun, citing a source in Tehran, reported that Khamenei had been severely injured in an airstrike and was in a coma. According to the report, the Iranian leader may have lost one or both legs and sustained liver and stomach injuries. He was reportedly in the intensive care unit of Sina Hospital in Tehran’s historic district, with parts of the facility reportedly under heavy guard.

Two days later, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi denied the reports, stating that the Supreme Leader is performing his duties and is in good health.
