International humanitarian forum opens in Baku
The 5th international humanitarian forum opens on Thursday in Azerbaijan's capital city Baku. The forum will be held under the patronage of Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents, Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev.
"The two-day forum will bring together prominent politicians, scientists, people of culture and arts, top executives of leading mass media from 75 countries and representatives from nine international organizations. According to the forum's organizer, among the participants will be 13 Nobel Prize winners, former presidents and former heads of government from a number of countries.
The agenda of the Baku forum includes "discussion of humanitarian problems, perspectives and challenges of the 21st century with due account of the realities of the globalizing world," organizers said.
The opening ceremony is expected to be addressed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets.
The program of the forum features two plenary sessions and six roundtable meetings. The forum is expected to be crowned by a final declaration.
The first Russian-Azerbaijani humanitarian cooperation forum was held in January 2010. Later, at the initiative of the two countries' presidents, it was decided to make this forum an international venue for discussion of global humanitarian problems of today. The first meeting in the new format was held in Baku in the autumn of 2011.
