Iran tests laser-guided bombs in aerial drill

Iran has successfully tested 2,000-pound laser-guided bombs on the last day of the air force military drills.

Iranian F-7 fighters targeted preset mock targets with optimized bombs in this stage of the drill, Brigadier General Masoud Rouzkhosh, the spokesman for the drills said, IRINN TV reported Oct. 19.

Rouzkhosh said the F-4 fighters used home-made air-to-surface Nasr missiles and Qased bombs to destroy the preset targets during the drills.

Iranian army’s air force launched three-day war games on Oct. 17 aimed at demonstrating the capabilities of the air force in safeguarding the Islamic Republic’s airspace.

The large-scale drills took place in the central province of Esfahan. In addition to the interceptor aircraft and fighter bombers of the Iranian air force, transport planes, reconnaissance aircraft, refueling planes and different types of drones took part in the massive drills.

In recent years, Iran has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in the production of important military equipment and systems.

The country has also conducted major military drills to enhance the defense capabilities of its armed forces and to test modern military tactics and state-of-the-art equipment.

The Islamic Republic maintains that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is merely based on deterrence.
