In today's conversation with the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Mukhtar Babaev, Minister of Transport T?lis Linkaits emphasized the need to develop bilateral co-operation both in the economy in general and in the field of transport and logistics in particular. Among other things, work should be continued on improving the legal framework and coordinating and concluding the ongoing agreements.

Today, a video meeting of the Minister of Transport of the Latvian-Azerbaijani Intergovernmental Commission Talis Linkaita and the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Mukhtar Babaev took place in video format.

The Ministers noted that the work of the Commission so far forms an important discussion platform for the development of economic co-operation between Latvia and Azerbaijan. During the conversation, the Minister of Transport Linkaits emphasized that as the trends of cargo flows change, the entrepreneurs of both countries must use the new opportunities and look for new forms of cooperation. Latvia is also interested in attracting investments from Azerbaijan in the transport and logistics sector, which would be beneficial for both parties. In turn, the Azerbaijani side from Latvia can take over the experience in the modernization of IT systems, green technologies and the so-called clean technologies.

Babajev, co-chair of the Azerbaijani side commission, emphasized that Latvia is an important economic cooperation partner for Azerbaijan and that both countries have great potential for cooperation. Although the current situation due to the viral pandemic is challenging, it has also opened up vast opportunities and new trends in imports and exports.

The previous meeting of the Latvian-Azerbaijani Intergovernmental Commission took place three years ago in Baku. The ministers agreed to hold the next meeting in Riga until the end of this year, if the epidemiological situation allows.
