Armenian Defense Ministry says its serviceman killed on border with Azerbaijan

An Armenian Armed Forces serviceman was killed by gunfire opened by the Azerbaijani military, Armenia's Defense Ministry said on Monday.

"Contract serviceman Ashot Mikaelyan was killed by adversary sniper fire at one of the combat positions in the northeastern sector at 1:10 a.m. on July 27," the ministry's press service said.

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, in turn, said earlier today that in the past 24 hours "units of the Armenian Armed Forces violated the ceasefire at different sectors of the frontline 45 times, using large-caliber machineguns and sniper rifles."

No casualties among Azerbaijani military personnel have been reported.
